Howie Long and Terry Bradshaw

Elaine and I got to meet Howie Long and Terry Bradshaw at an event in Richmond last night. Long sat at our table for dinner. Both were great guys and good for lots of laughs.

Elaine got to compare notes on Villanova with fellow alum, Howie Long. They talked about their majors, dorms and professors (and slapped high five over yesterday's 20 point win in the NCAA tournament). Howie said the professors he remembered most were those that treated him "worse than snot." The first name that came to mind was Professor Regan (Matt's dad) who wrote in one of his philosophy blue books a full page telling him that he would be a failure in life and never amount to anything. He said he ran into Professor Regan a few years ago at Villanova at an event for the scholarship Long sponsors for underprivileged kids (he was raised by his grandmother and uncles in South Boston) and Regan told him he still couldn't believe that he didn't end up in jail. We told him about our family connection and said we were glad things turned out better than predicted.

Julie: "Who's Howie Long?"

John: "You know, the former Oakland Raider and Sunday Football analyst...tall guy, semi-buzz cut?"

Julie: "Nope"

A few days later, a we were watching TV together and on comes Howie in a Chevy commercial. Problem solved.
