The elders of the Nagle Clan gathered yesterday for a show and a dinner. The show was "The Drowsy Chaperone," an affectionate spoof of the musical comedies of the 1920's. A sad and lonely guy talks to the audience and plays his favorite record, the original cast recording of the 1928 hit "The Drowsy Chaperone." As he plays the record the show comes to life on stage: a brilliant concept, uproarious comedy, and a touching finale. We wondered about the title but the chaperone is not so much drowsy as drunk (her motto is "Keep your eyeball/on the highball." Uncle Joe claims that I laughed more than anyone in the theater but my sisters were close behind. Ginny was particularly taken with two gangsters disguised as pastry chefs and a seedy, dim-witted latin lover called Adolpho. In fact we all laughed up a storm and had a wonderful time.
Dinner followed at Latanzi's right down the street from the theater. Carpaccio, deep fried artichokes, melon and prosciutto, wild mushroom ravioli, swordfish, veal (both a chop and picata), linguine with white clam sauce - all great. The hilarity continued with Uncle Joe on his favorite topic "Memories of Mama" and "Fun Moments with Anne and Frank."

I'm glad to hear the "elder" members of the Nagle clan can still hit the big town for a good time!
